ABOUT CAPTURE YOUR YESTERDAY
“Tomorrow is promised to no one.”

My youngest son was just shy of 12 months old when the Covid lockdown began. We were living in a 50s ranch on the edge of Clintonville, OH, a trendy suburb where my eldest sons attended preschool, our favorite vegan diner served up killer “cheez”cake, and our board game shop hosted beer tasting events.

I remember the mahogany stained wood flooring that we refurnished ourselves in the cold November days before we moved in. A giant indoor climbing gym took the place of a dining set in my dining room, and the sliding door behind it led out to a play set we built ourselves after I brought it home from Costco in my Honda Odyssey.
I also remember my youngest sons 1st birthday. A dear friend organized a birthday parade where several friends (and my midwife!) drove by slowly in front of our house and shouted “happy birthday!” to my son. It was.. bittersweet.
Overwhelmed and isolated as my homeschool meetups were cancelled, friends stopped getting together and our libraries shut their doors, I started dreaming of a change for our family. When my husband’s company announced that they were going fully remote, I jumped at the opportunity. Instead of Netflix after a long day, I would pick Youtube videos from other full-time RVing families. It wasn’t very hard to convince him!
It’s been over two years since we sold our tiny ranch house to a friend and dove head first into RV living. It was a STEEP learning curve as we had only ever tent camped before. We have faced many difficulties on the road and I often reminisce of our simpler, previous life. One that always seemed to have water, electricity, a working refrigerator, same day Amazon delivery and a nearby Whole Foods..
However, through these trials and tribulations we have forged such a deep connection with each other. We have cried, laughed and loved harder than ever before. We have uncovered what was always felt yet never fully realized.
"You create your happiness."
Even when our grey tank is clogged and has flooded the underbelly of our camper, we recognize this is not despair. The universe isn’t telling us that we aren’t cut out for this lifestyle and we need to make a change so we never feel this uncomfortable again. This is just another obstacle for us to tackle. We pause, take a deep breath and smile in gratitude for the things in life that ARE going our way.
This mindset shift is the birthplace of “Capture Your Yesterday.” We aim to live each day so that when morning comes we can reflect and focus on the good we have going on in life. Some yesterdays we’re grateful for are as simple as a board game played with kids, finding a snake on a trail or going to bed with a clean counter. Other days it’s completing a junior ranger program at a national park or riding Guardians of the Galaxy for the first time. Wherever you may be right now in your life, we truly believe you can join us and capture your own yesterdays.
